The Princess Bride
by William Goldman This is (supposedly) Goldman's shorter version of "just the good parts" of a much longer (fictional) epic. There are adventure, murder, pirates, swordplay, torture, and a little romance. You (or your older family members) may have seen the movie. Now read the book and get to know your favorite characters (Fizzik, Inigo, Buttercup, and Westley) even better! |

All the Light We Cannot See
by Anthony Doerr Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris. She has gone blind and so her father built her a model of her town for her to memorize by touch so she can find her way around. When Hitler is set to arrive, she and her father flee to her uncle's home far away from Paris. Werner is a technology wizard, particularly talented with radios and his skills have earned him a place at the academy for the Hitler Youth. Werner quickly realizes that his skills are not being used to help humanity. As you move through the book, the two main characters' stories become entwined. Beautifully written, this book highlights the way people try to be good to each other. |
