ELL (English Language Learners) Required Reading Instructions
ELL I
During the summer, Fessenden students in the ELL I program are expected to read 3 summer reading books. We believe choice sparks curious, lifelong readers. Accordingly, students can choose 2 of their 3 summer reading books, and we encourage students to make these choices for themselves. However, in order to foster conversation and dialogue upon our return to school, one book is required for the ELL I course.
The Wild Robot by Peter Brown is the ELL I required book. You may read a digital, physical, or audio version of the book in English. The required work for this book is linked here and students should print the sheet so they can complete it by hand. Students will summarize the text as they read. There will be a larger assignment related to this work when the students return to school. Students can find directions and guidelines at the top of the linked sheet.
There is no work required for the other two choice books. Students can choose any two grade/ability-appropriate titles. Our Summer Reading site at www.fessysummerreading.org provides a list of suggested books in case your student needs help choosing a great book. Students do not need to purchase or bring a copy of the choice books in the fall.
