E.L.L. Required Reading Instructions
REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGLISH DEPARTMENT:
STEP 1:
SUMMARY: Josh loves basketball and his nickname is "Filthy McNasty".
DETAIL: Josh got his nickname after listening to a Jazz musician named Horace Silver.
- Choose 1 book from any genre on this book list that you are excited about reading.
- Every 10 pages complete a one sentence summary of what you've read as well as a one detail from those 10 pages. An example of the first 10 pages has been done for you below:

OPTIONAL--READING MORE BOOKS
While you are required to read only two books for English, we encourage you to read as many other books as you can that are either on or off the list.
If you do read more books, please make a list of the titles and authors you read over the summer and give it to your English teacher on the first day of school.

- Choose 1 book to read from the History, Historical Fiction, or Biography lists.
Fill out the first two columns of the KWL form that follows (What do I already know about the Boston Tea Party before reading the book? What do I want to find out about the Boston Tea Party?) before you read this book. Then fill out the last column (What did I learn about the Boston Tea Party from reading the book?) after reading the book.
